Third Fleet Headquarters

The Third Fleet Headquarters is the nerve center for naval activities in the Atlantic. The main headquarters for Third Fleet is located at Naval Station the Angle, which is where Third Fleet's home port. It includes 350 officers and NCOs organized into functional departments to include the command group, plans, operations, liaison, supply, and others. The fleet's home is Naval Station the Angle, but a small forward headquarters is located in Dublin, Ireland in an unassuming office building that actually contains a high-tech, high security communications and command center.

CVBG-8 is built around the Kitty Hawk class aircraft carrier Armageddon. In addition to the carrier, CVBG-8 includes the cruiser Boxer and the fast support ship Antelope. Carrier Air Wing 4 is assigned to the Armageddon. 

Carrier Air Wing 4 provides the offensive firepower for CVBG-8. Embarked aboard the Armageddon, CAW-4 contains 4 fighter and attack squadrons, an anti-submarine squadron, a helicopter squadron, an airborne early warning detachment, and an electronic warfare detachment. At full strength the air wing contains 72 fixed and rotary wing aircraft.

DESRON 3 is a flexible surface warfare unit consisting of Arleigh Burke and Spruance class destroyers. Their primary mission is to provide escort ships to carrier battle groups, but due to the capabilities of the destroyers, these ships may also be tasked to perform a multitude of special missions.

SUBRON 13 is Third Fleet's attack submarine force. Typically, these attack boats will be attached to surface ship formations, but they can also deploy individually or in groups. Submarine deployments are a closely guarded secret, though you can count on a submarine being attached to most naval formations.

SUBRON 16 is Third Fleet's guided missile submarine force. Unlike their attack boat brethren, the boats of SUBRON 16 operate independently, providing the ROD with lethal options to crises across the globe. All of the ROD's SSGNs are Ohio class guided missile submarines, each carrying up to 154 Tomahawk cruise missiles.

Third Fleet, in addition to squadrons of ships and carrier battle groups, has a battleship and several independent aircraft squadrons. The fleet commander may deploy those resources as he sees fit, either reinforcing other formations, or deploying them by themselves.
