2nd Air Force
The 2nd Air Force is a forward deployed formation with responsibility for Air Force operations in Europe, the Middle East, the Mediterranean Sea, and the Indian Ocean. Under it's command are a variety of Air Force units that are scattered through is area of responsibility.
The 2nd Air Force headquarter is located in Germany, but its real purpose is to provide an Air Force command and control element that is already deployed. The HQ is capable of moving on short notice and assuming command of air units in any theater, or even becoming a join forces headquarters itself.
